The guys attempt to rebuild a 1959 Chevy El Camino that is in poor. ![]() "I started watching YouTube videos and Googling how to use different painting techniques. Misfit Garage is a Discovery Channel reality. Even more remarkable, his past experience was with pearl and metallic paint, not candy. "I had painted cars before but only as a hobby, never professionally," he says. His first task was to paint and pattern it a task he took on himself. The El Camino floated around from shop to shop until Ruben brought it home to do work on it. "I also started taking up as many side jobs as I could to be able to build it the way I wanted it," he explains. Klump in the Road: Thomas and Tom acquire a rare first, generation 1959 Chevy El Camino, but excitement turns to despair when the cars deteriorated condition gives John Klump second thoughts about the build and forces him to make a decision about his involvement with FUG. One day, Ruben decided to commit his whole time to finishing up the El Camino and he knew that the only way to do that was by getting rid of his other projects. Will this band of misfits be able to turn their garage into a money-making machine, or will their mistakes sink their business. Thomas must decide whether he wants to build up a 59 Oldsmobile, or keep as an original relic. A spin-off of the hit series Fast N Loud, Misfit Garage features four mechanics who have all done business with Richard Rawlings Gas Monkey Garage and join forces to create their own hot rod shop to rival Gas Monkey. I wasn't planning on going as far as I did I just wanted a cruiser." The work on the El Camino was put on hold for two years since he was working on a few other project cars. Thomas and Scot roll into FU with their first truck project, but disaster strikes when Scot and Austin pick up the newly painted 69 Chevy cab and bed. ![]() "I got it running, but only took it for one spin because I always had plans of restoring it. It’s a manual transmission 3-speed on the column and has a 327 under the hood. With 60,765 miles on the odometer, this classic runs and drives pretty dang well. Below that steel floor was the floor pan from the Brookwood wagon. "The El Camino was just sitting on side of the street and my co-worker and I would always say, 'That's my dream car.' One day it had a 'for sale' sign on it, so I took down the number." Ruben called the owner about purchasing the project car, made the deal, and took the car home. The 1959 El Camino was promoted as the first Chevrolet pickup built with a steel bed floor instead of wood. "I found my '59 El Camino many years ago, as I would pass by it many times on my daily work route," explains Ruben. ![]()
